Description

Family caregivers often experience considerable emotional and role-related challenges while supporting a loved one at the end of life. Despite these significant demands, they rarely receive targeted tools to bolster their emotional well-being and resilience. Following a review of evidence-based literature and input from hospice staff, we created three caregiver-centered handouts and brief accompanying videos focused on coping strategies, role transitions, and grief. These tools are designed to be accessible, trauma-informed, and easy to use across diverse caregiver populations. Throughout development, attention was focused on plain language, visual accessibility, and relevance to caregivers’ real-world experiences. This presentation will highlight the process of creating these materials, the core content of each tool, and practical implementation strategies.

Learning Outcomes

1. Identify a range of evidence-based caregiver resources available to support mental health, coping, and role transitions during hospice care. 2. Determine the most appropriate caregiver resource(s) to provide based on an individual caregiver’s unique needs, preferences, and stage in the caregiving or grieving process.
