Name
Caring for the Caregivers: Building a Trauma-Informed Workplace in Hospice Organizations
Date & Time
Monday, April 20, 2026, 1:00 PM - 2:15 PM
Description

Hospice work is sacred, meaningful—and profoundly stressful. Staff and volunteers witness grief, suffering, and transition every day. Without intentional support, this cumulative exposure to others’ trauma can lead to compassion fatigue, burnout, and organizational distress. Creating a trauma-informed workplace allows hospice organizations to sustain both their mission and their people. In this interactive session, we’ll explore how trauma-informed principles—safety, trust, choice, collaboration, and empowerment—can transform the culture of care for hospice teams. Participants will learn how these principles apply not only to patient and family care, but also to staff interactions, supervision, and organizational policies.

Learning Outcomes

Participants will be able to: 1. Identify the signs of trauma exposure and chronic stress in hospice staff. 2. Describe the core principles of a trauma-informed workplace and their application in hospice settings. 3. Implement at least three trauma-informed strategies that support staff wellbeing and reduce burnout.
