Description

Older and vulnerable adults are disproportionately victims of abuse, neglect, and financial exploitation. Often these forms of abuse happen at the hands of individuals with whom the victim has a relationship of trust. Elder abuse risk factors grow as vulnerability and dependency increases due to declining health or increased need for support. This session will explore elder and vulnerable adult abuse, neglect and financial exploitation, and the complex and interconnected response systems available to victims and their families.

Learning Objectives:

  • Review definitions and statistics related to instances of abuse.
  • Recognize the common dynamics of elder abuse, neglect and financial exploitation.
  • Identify unique barriers that may exist for older adults seeking assistance.
  • Prevention and intervention strategies and best practices.
  • Share additional resources.
