Sara Revier has been a nurse for 22 years. She obtained a Bachelors of Arts in Nursing from Concordia College, Moorhead in 2001. She began her nursing career at the Fargo VA on the medical floor and worked for 10 years in various hospital and clinic positions. In 2011, Sara obtained her Master’s Degree in Nursing from Minnesota State University, Mankato and began her career as an advanced palliative care provider on an inpatient palliative care consult service, where she worked for 8 years. During this time, Sara was also instrumental in developing a home palliative care program. In January 2019, Sara took her current position serving as the outpatient palliative care provider at a VA facility.

Throughout Sara’s career in palliative care, she has led and participated in numerous projects related to improving and standardizing end of life care at facility, regional and national levels. One area of end of life care that Sara is passionate about is improving communication with seriously ill patients and families to identify their goals and preferences for care earlier in the disease trajectory to guide future care, which she has published on.

Sara actively seeks opportunities to participate in and advance the field of palliative care at facility, regional and national levels. Sara is the current co-lead of the VA’s regional Palliative Care Community of Practice. Sara is also serving her 2nd term on the National Hospice and Palliative Care Credentialing Center’s, Education Development Committee and is acting chair, for the Advanced Certified Hospice and Palliative Nurse Certification Exam. Sara also serves on the Executive Board and Board of Directors for the Minnesota Network of Hospice and Palliative Care.
