Description

Meaning Centered Psychotherapy was developed 15 years ago by Dr. William Breitbart in response to the realization that traditional models of psychotherapy were not adequate to meet the needs of cancer patients who were facing the existential work of end of life. This model is heavily influenced by the works of Viktor Frankl and his book "Man's Search for Meaning". This session will provide an overview of Meaning Centered Psychotherapy in the outpatient palliative care clinic setting as well as potential uses inpatient.

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe meaning centered psychotherapy.
  • Identify situations in which it can be useful to patients and/or families.
