OPENING KEYNOTE: MAID PANEL

The Intricate Landscape of Medical Aid in Dying: Preparing for Changes in Policy and Practice

As Minnesota considers the potential passing of the End-of-Life Option Act, there is an urgent need to educate and prepare healthcare professionals for the complexities of medical aid in dying (MAID). This session aims to equip participants with the knowledge and introspection necessary to navigate this emotionally charged topic with competence and compassion. Patients and their families are already seeking guidance on MAID from clinicians. MNHPC is uniquely positioned to lead the way in ensuring that healthcare providers are prepared to deliver thoughtful and ethical care while honoring their neutral position. This keynote will feature an interdisciplinary panel of experts who will delve into the history, legislation, and practice of MAID, offering diverse perspectives from within the medical community and broader society. Recognizing the deeply personal and ethical considerations involved, this session will also provide a vital space for healthcare professionals to reflect on their beliefs and values with their fellow colleagues. A breakout session will allow participants to engage in guided discussions, fostering connection and deeper understanding of how MAID may impact their practice.

Every year MNHPC recognizes two exceptional volunteers to receive the MNHPC Volunteer of the Year and MNHPC Veteran Volunteer of the Year awards. The individuals recognized with these awards demonstrate exceptional commitment, service, and compassion in serving others at the end of their lives. We will publicly recognize the award winners at MNHPC’s 2025 Conference.
